In the real world, RICO broke the American mafia in the 1980s and 90s. It still exists, stripped of the reach and structure it once had.
The fiction of this series asks a different question. What if those families hadn’t shrunk, and hadn’t stayed only what they were?
That world is what the people inside it call The Dark.
